SEMINAR FOR UUM STUDENTS, COMMUNITIES OF SINTOK, JITRA AND BUKIT KAYU HITAM ON BASICS KNOWLEDGE TO AVOID VEHICLES FROM BEING STOLEN

JITRA, 26 January 2022: Vehicle Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) brought the basics knowledge of avoiding and handling vehicles from being stolen to the students of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Jitra and Bukit Kayu Hitam communities through physical seminar as and via online live.

YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC officiated the Seminar.  During her speeches, she stressed that the collaboration among stakeholders including students and communities are important as fundamental to reduce crime of vehicle theft locally and at large.  It is important for students and communities to play their role both in protecting their vehicle and change of behaviour to care for their vehicle in the effort to prevent vehicles from being stolen, hence directly as an abler to press the record of stolen vehicles in the country.  YBrs Puan Mas Tina urged to use the seminar to galvanize co-operation between the students, communities and VTREC to help pave the way to reduce the crime of vehicle theft and increase the wellbeing of the people in particular in Kedah and Malaysia as a whole.

 

Organised in collaboration with the Gerakan Pengguna Siswa Universiti Utara Malaysia (GPSUUM) in co-operation with Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti (JPJKK) of Polis Diraja Malaysia and Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia Negeri Kedah, the seminar highlights the urgency for students and communities to play their role in protecting their vehicles and sustainable solutions to build resilient vehicle protect behaviour that can withstand their vehicles from getting stolen and increase their life and family wellbeing.

Earlier, the welcome remark was delivered by YBrs Cik Miza Kamilia binti Mustafa Kamal, President of GPSUUM, in her speeches among others she thanked VTREC on its effort to transfer knowledge of vehicle theft and to approach GPSUMM to form such an important event in protecting vehicles among students particularly UUM students and she also thanked the speakers for their expertise and sharing.  She hopes that the dimension of co-operation between VTREC and GPSUUM through the related programmes will be able to contribute further reduction to the statistics of vehicle theft.

The seminar was conducted in hybrid event where it was a mix of a live and virtual seminar considering the event took place following Covid-19 pandemic.  As part of VTREC’s commitment to assist the nation to reduce the rate of property crime in particular vehicle theft, VTREC is leveraging on students’ and communities’ platforms that aims to engage and connect the key stakeholders including students and communities to show its commitment in creating awareness through transferring knowledge of how to protect vehicle and empirical steps to fight vehicle theft.  UUM Students and the communities of Sintok, Jitra and Bukit Kayu Hitam were the key focus groups of the seminar due to their strategic locations which situated near to Bukit Kayu Hitam Gateway, the border of Malaysia-Thailand.

 

The seminar was kicked off by the first presentation by YBrs Puan Afif Aliyana Abu Fitri of VTREC sharing and explaining about VTREC and the statistics of vehicle theft in Malaysia.  It was then succeeded by YDH Tuan ASP Azmirul Abdul Aziz, PT-D4, Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah, Polis Diraja Malaysia Negeri Kedah presenting the situation of vehicle theft in Kedah and common modus operandi by vehicle thieves and syndicates.  The seminar ended with YBrs Tuan Hillmy Yahaya, Penolong Ketua Seksyen Bahagian Operasi, Bahagian Penguatkuasaan, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Negeri Kedah discussion on stolen vehicle for cloned.  The participants took the opportunity to ask various questions to enlighten their knowledge in respect of the discussion.
