VTREC HOLDS CRIME OF VEHICLE THEFT SEMINAR ADRESSING: REBIRTHING OF TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE AND MS1742 VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEMS AS MANDATORY THEFT PROOF

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 August 2023:  As a part of a continuous effort against vehicle theft, the Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia holds a strategic seminar to address the adverse impact on rebirthing of total loss vehicle and the implication of standards MS1742 on vehicle security systems to curb vehicle theft crime.

 

 

The strategic seminar was held at Pullman Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Bangsar. The seminar was graced by participation of representatives across various agencies, such as Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), Department of Standards Malaysia (JSM), Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), Malaysia Automotive, Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii), Motordata Research Consortium Sdn Bhd (MRC), Insurance companies and takaful operators.

In her address she welcomed each and every one to the seminar and highlighted that lawless behaviour in vehicle theft has created a domain for propagation of crime in the country.  Among others, she also underlined on reduction of vehicle theft cases over the years and expressed her gratitude toward dedication shown by enforcement agencies especially the Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) and Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ), nevertheless insurance industry and other stakeholders who work hand in hand to curb the crime of vehicle theft.  She also thanked all those who made the seminar a reality.

The Guest of Honour, YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan, Acting Chairman of Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia cum Pengarah Kanan, Bahagian Penguatkuasa, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ) imparted his Keynote Address, highlighting the rampant issues with exploitation of Total Loss Vehicle where every agency involved should play their efforts and role to impede the rebirthing of total loss vehicle being used as the conduit in other crimes.

YBhg Datuk Lokman appraised VTREC for being highly engaged and good collaboration with JPJ in steering the initiative to dispose registration cards of total loss declared vehicle as a step forward to curtail rebirthing of stolen vehicle.  In his speech, YBhg Datuk Lokman also highlighted the importance to comply with MS1742 standards, as the rule of mandatory theft proof that should be embraced by vehicle manufacturers. Finally, YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan calls and urges everyone to trim the exploitation of total loss vehicle and be aware on the importance of MS1742 towards putting vehicle theft cases to a lower bar.

Earlier, the seminar begun with recitation of prayers by Imam of Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur, Al-Fadhil Ustadz Nadzri Mustakim, gracing the session safety briefing by Encik Azri Mohamed, Safety Officer of Pullman Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The experts from diverse agencies were invited to deliver their sharing and presentation at the Seminar. The speakers whom graciously attended were:

  1. YDH Dato’ SAC S Shanmugamoorthy Chinniah, Ketua Penolong Pengarah, Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Bukit Aman, Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) presented Studies on Vehicle Theft Cases between 2020 to 2023.
  2. YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia with presentation on the Vehicle Theft Cases Recorded for Five (5) Years, 2018 – 2022.
  3. Mr Jason Ho, Head of Data Management, Data Management Department, ISM Insurance Services Malaysia (ISM) with presentation on ISM Cue Motor: Actual Total Loss.
  4. YBhg Dato’ Alex Lye, President of International Association of Auto Theft Investigators for Asia Branch with presentation on Malaysia Automotive Security Roadmap 2023 – 2030.
  5. YBrs Tuan Azzaharin Allias, Ketua Penolong Pengarah, Bahagian Kejuruteraan Automotif, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ) represented Technical Committee under Department of Standards Malaysia with his presentation on Enforcement Policy on Vehicle Security Systems.

The seminar received positive responses from participants with various sharing and questions being raised to enlighten understanding of issues.  The discussion was conducted in a prolific and healthy manner.

The Seminar concluded with presentation of mementos to all speakers by YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan, accompanied by YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid. All participants headed home cherished with beneficial and informative input.
