KULA LUMPUR: Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad (VTREC), together with Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) has officially launched its PDRM-VTREC Vehicle Theft Public Awareness Campaign 2019 with a tag-line “Say No To Vehicle Theft” at NU Sentral Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department Director, YDH Dato’ Huzir bin Mohamed attributed the improvement to close collaboration among members of VTREC and other NGOs in his officiating speech during the launching.

The campaign aims to raise awareness and to reduce the crime of vehicle theft by sharing ways to prevent such crime from happening. Huzir said “over years vehicle theft crime cases had declined from 42,158 cases in 2017 to 35,953 cases compared to the same duration in 2018, the statistics shows that 26,779 stolen motorcycle cases, 7,413 on cars and 1,761 stolen cases reported on lorries, vans and heavy vehicles.”

Meanwhile, VTREC Senior Advisor YBhg Encik Mohd Yusof bin Idris said “the event is to share knowledge, the adverse effect of vehicle theft crime and how public can play their role either directly and indirectly to reduce the risk of vehicle theft crime” during his speech at the event yesterday.
Yusof mentioned that on 26thof June 2019, VTREC have launched the campaign through social media especially Instagram and Facebook, its aim is for the younger generation. There were pledge wall, booths, pocket talks, games and various contests offered to the public.
