KUALA LUMPUR, 24 February 2021: The Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) engaged in an online meet and greet with the Road Safety Division (BKJR) formerly known as JKJR. The session saw a sharing and the latest update on the status of BKJR and their current role after being position under the umbrella of Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ).
Puan Mas Tina Binti Abdul Hamid, VTREC’s Co-ordinator thanked and welcomed everyone joining the session. BKJRline-up, led by YBrs. Dr. Wong Yau Duenn, Director of BKJR, Puan Ani Fadilah Binti. Dahri @ Abd Latif, Deputy Direector of BKJR – Advocation Section, Puan Noorharzuin Binti. Halim, Senior Assistant Director- Policy and Innovation Section, Encik Kamarulazhar Bin Abd Salam, Assistant Administration Officer – Advocation Section, Encik Abd Rahman Bin Paimin, Senior Assistant Enforcement Officer – Advocation Section, Encik Khalid Bin Din, Senior Assistant Enforcement Officer – Advocation Section and Encik Yussaimi Bin Yusof, Assistant Enforcement Officer – Advocation Section were among the attendees.

Also, in attendance were Mr William Tan, Assistant General Manager Head, Technical & Distribution and Ms Florence Loke, Senior Manager (Projects) Head of Research & Data of Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM). While, Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) were attended by Encik Tuan Azza Afif bin Tuan Yusof, Technical ServicesOfficer and Puan Sabreena Binti Jamaluddin, General Technical Officer. Joining together. Also attended were VTREC Executives, Encik Muhammad Alif Mohd Adnan and Puan Afif Aliyana Abu Fitri.
Puan Mas Tina begins the session with an overview of the road traffic accident statistic and trends in the insurance industry as an early briefing. Then, it was followed by further discussion and sharings from each representative to shed some light and also initiate a potential dynamism to reduce the number of a road traffic accident in Malaysia.

It is stated that BKJR is a rebranding of the previous JKJR after the new government took over. JKJR was absorbed under JPJ and renamed BKJR on 1st May 2020, the transition was completed on 8th May 2020. Previously JKJR had 3 main sub-unit: Planning and Implementation Program Units is now known as the Advocation Section, the Policy and Innovation Unit remains the same name but become a section, and Corporate Communication Unit is subbed under the Advocation Section.
He also shared about the role for each section, starting with the advocacy section which is the section in charge of the campaign and initiatives by BKJR. Currently, they initiated a campaign called TMTA ‘Tiada Minggu Tanpa Advokasi’, the campaign is focused on each road users from pedestrians, bicycle, motorcycle, private car and commercial vehicle. Other initiatives such as ‘Ops Bersepadu’, executed especially during festivities season and, advocacy with figures such as the National Chief Police. The strategic collaboration is made with other agencies, industries, NGOs and communities and also highlighted their education program implemented for kindergarten to universities.
Dr Wong expressed that BKJR is honoured to be collaborating with the industry such as VTREC, PIAM and MTA. He emphasized that BKJR are always open for any types of collaboration from the industry and they are open for the industries to reach out at any time. Dr Wong on behalf of BKJR thanked the industry for the fruitful session and thanked VTREC for initiating the meeting and hoping VTREC will be able to organise a further meeting in the future.
