KUALA LUMPUR, 5 APRIL 2021: Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad (VTREC) together with Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) have embarked their soft launch of vehicle theft campaign this morning.

The soft launch is a strategy to create ready, steady preliminary communication on reducing vehicle theft. The vehicle theft campaign aimed at creating awareness among vehicle owners to protect their vehicle from theft. The soft launch introduces the logo of the campaign and theme “Protect Your Vehicle from Theft”.

YDH DCP Datuk Dev Kumar, Deputy Director of CID Bukit Aman officiated the Soft Launch, witnessed by Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC, Mr William Tan of Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), Encik Mohamad Izaz Othman of Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) and YBhg Dato’ Ooi Win Juat of PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd (PUSPAKOM)
The soft launching with theme @Protect Your Vehicle From Theft” was officiated by Bukit Aman CID (Intelligence/Operations) deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Dev Kumar. The soft launch were also attended by other government agencies such as Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ), Bahagian Keselamatan Jalanraya (BKJR) as well as non-government agencies among others from Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), Malaysia Takaful Association (MTA), PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd (PUSPAKOM) and Association of Loss Adjuster (AMLA). The Soft Launching of PDRM-VTREC Vehicle Theft Public Awareness Campaign 2021 took place at TPC Kuala Lumpur, today.

YDH DCP Datuk Dev Kumar said that the rate of vehicle theft can be further reduced if all parties play their role to protect their vehicle and to set the right mentality to care for their vehicle and not to be a victim. He said that the syndicate evolve their modus operandi as such we also must evolve to overcome this.

Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC said that about 20 vehicles were stolen daily in 2020 compared to 32 per day in 2019, a reduction of 37% with 7,400 cases reported last year compared to 11,675 in 2019.
She also said that Proton Wira (353) and Proton Iswara (273) were among top 3 most stolen vehicle, while for foreign made vehicle, Toyota Hilux record the highest stolen vehicles with 209 units being stolen.
