Happy Birthday VTREC 14th Anniversary!

Brief but energetic display took place to show support that gave chill bumps in commemoration of VTREC 14thBirthday

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 April 2021: “Happy Birthday VTREC on your fourteenth!”.  Today is VTREC’s birthday and it’s turning 14 years old. Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad (VTREC) is celebrating its 14th anniversary today.  It has been 14 years since VTREC embarked on the journey to reduce vehicle theft in the country.  It started in the 30th April 2007 when VTREC was incorporated.

VTREC recently unveiled an art contest PDRM-VTREC Colouring Contest with Protect Your Vehicle from Theft theme, in augurating its public awareness campaign and anniversary celebrations.  Through the initiative, VTREC aims to continue driving down vehicle theft rate nationwide.

Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC said that VTREC will continue

to drive down vehicle theft rate despite challenges and burden

 posed by the COVID-19 pandemic

“Everyone is invited and it is free to enter the contest according to their creativity and colouring skills. Contestants may add drawing people, vehicles and objects on the colouring sheet. Some will illustrate Malaysian vehicle theft scene while others may want to includes their own artistic interpretation depicting behaviour change in protecting vehicle from being stolen.  These talented contestants have no limit to number of submissions, however each of contestant will be entitled to one prize only.

The colouring contest is to spread the awareness among motorists in particular.  It will attract public attention to participate and to protect their vehicle with hoping that it will further reduce the rate of vehicle crime in Malaysia.   We believe significant change in the behaviour of vehicle owners will account for further reduction of vehicle theft,” says Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC.

She highlighted that the number of vehicle theft cases in the country has shown a decline each year.  In 2020, there were 21,578 vehicle theft cases reported, reduced by 30% compared to 30,868 in 2019.  Total number of stolen cars were 4,596 units, motorcycle 16,057 units and commercial vehicle 925 units.  The key appeals of success in reducing the number of vehicle theft are close collaboration and joint efforts between VTREC and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) as well as others both government agencies and non-government agencies.
