The FB Live Session hosted by YBhg Puan Mas Tina, Co-ordinator of VTREC
KUALA LUMPUR, 4 August 2022: In efforts to spread awareness about how to protect vehicles from theft, Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) have kicked off Facebook Live Session discussing the current trend of vehicle theft crimes in Malaysia and tips on how to protect your vehicle against vehicle theft. The theme of the FB Live session was “Tips on How to Protect Your Vehicle from Thieves”.
The FB Live session was held as an online feedback channel provided by VTREC that seeks to inform and educate the community about vehicle theft with hope to change motorists’ attitude and behaviour to care and protect their vehicles from being stolen.
The Co-ordinator of VTREC, YBhg Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid commenced the session by presenting the statistics of vehicle theft cases in Malaysia within five years span between 2017 until 2021. YBhg Puan Mas Tina stated that records have shown significant reductions for all of vehicle classes. Private vehicles have recorded reduction of theft cases by 73% or by 4,480 units and 70% or 7,518 units for motorcycle. YBhg Puan Mas Tina also stated that vehicle theft cases for commercial vehicle have shown reduction of 70% or by 638 units over five years.
In accordance to that, YBhg Puan Mas Tina expresses her appreciations to Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) and Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ) in particular on collaborative efforts between Government enforcements agencies, non-government agencies and also the public for their contributions which helped curb the crime, eventually reduce the rate of vehicle theft nationwide.

Additionally, YBhg Puan Mas Tina shared some tips and thoughts on how to avoid the vehicle from being stolen. She highlighted the importance of one’s vehicle to have a built-in security system as the first layer of protection such as sound alarm, or car key system with alert features. She also stated that self-initiatives by vehicle owners are also important. The owners especially are capable to prevent crime of vehicle theft by protecting their vehicle either motorcycle, car or commercial vehicle from being stolen, for example to install manual locks such as steering lock and pedal lock, nevertheless care to park at safe and well-lit areas. The safety of a vehicle is now a necessity which requires investment towards safety features to ensure vehicle theft crime can be avoided.
The session continued with YBhg Puan Mas Tina answering questions given by the audiences. Among questions were about the thoughts of vehicle scam which happened frequently nowadays. YBhg Puan Mas Tina answered and advised public to be vigilant when buying vehicle online by being cautious when the advertisement showing shady information such as super amazing deal, cheap price far below the market price, the price is so good to be true and much more.
Moving forward, YBhg Mas Tina answered other questions on what happened to the stolen vehicle, where the vehicles will either be smuggled transnationally or being cannibalised for parts and sold domestically through black market. She also pointed out that Proton Wira is dominating the top chart as the most stolen vehicle for local manufactured cars, while Toyota Hilux followed by Honda Civic and Honda City are being highly targeted for foreign manufactured cars to be stolen.
