KUCHING, 25 July 2023: The Co-ordinator of Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC), YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid met with Briged Sarawak General Operation Force (PGA) (Pasukan Gerakan Am Briged Sarawak), YDH Insp Ahmad Hafizi Hamidun, Penolong Ajutan. The event was to discuss crime of vehicle theft in Sarawak and in enhancing the prevention initiatives in respect to smuggling of stolen Malaysia vehicles by land through Malaysia-Indonesia border.
The even saw an exchange of information on role of VTREC, status of vehicle theft in the country, potential opportunities of collaboration between VTREC and PGA role in preventing vehicle theft. During the meeting YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid highlighted the reduction of vehicle theft in the country in 2022 as compared to prior years. However keyless vehicles have been the new target by the perpetrators to steal a vehicle within a few seconds and the increase number of Toyota Hilux being stolen. In the meeting also attended was Puan Nur Alwanie Iberahim, VTREC Executive.
The visit is expected to strengthen the mutual co-operation and good relation between VTREC and PGA in combating vehicle theft in the country, particularly in Sarawak. Both parties had a fruitful discussion and exchanged views on an array.
