BUKIT KAYU HITAM, 19 February 2024: Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) led by YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, VTREC Co-ordinator together with the entourage undertook an official visit to the Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia let by YBrs Tuan Rosli Issak, Penolong Pengarah Imigresen (Ketua Imigresen ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah).
The visit aimed to expand co-operation between VTREC and Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia at the Malaysia-Thai land entry/exit point namely ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam – Sadao border to push forward an opportunity to have a mutual beneficial co-operation, particularly in areas that will contribute to tourists and vehicles travelling to and fro Malaysia.

During the discussion session, YBrs Tuan Rosli Issak, Penolong Pengarah Imigresen (Ketua ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah) warmly welcomed the entourage as he delivered his briefing on the role of Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia at ICQS Bukit Kayu Hitam – Sadao (Malaysia-Thai) border.

YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid shared how Malaysia car-jacking syndicates have been using Thailand as a transit point as part of a dubious strategy to smuggle stolen vehicle into regional countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam as highlighted by former Chairman of VTREC cum former Bukit Aman CID Director, CP Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmudin Mohd during his visit to Bangkok, Thailand for an official ceremony of handling over of 20 units of Malaysian stolen cars from Royal Thai Police (RTP) adviser, Gen Witaya Prayongpan.

“Stolen vehicle is not merely about stolen motor vehicles but could potentially finance other activities of criminal nature such as terrorism. It is important to tackle vehicle theft issue as it could potentially lead to other nefarious criminal activities”, stressed Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and his deputy, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan.
Border protection will be able to prevent the flow of smugglers carrying illegal goods including stolen vehicle existing Malaysia, to curb crime of vehicle theft and ensuring territorial sovereignty. The establishment of Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) in Bukit Kayu Hitam is expected to further improve security control at the entry point and closed up the gaps at the border including smuggling of Malaysian stolen vehicles.

During the meeting the sides discussed the current level and prospects of co-operation between VTREC and Imigresen in initiative to curb crime of vehicle theft and cloned vehicles. The two interlocutors held a fruitful discussion in a warm environment whereby both parties expressed their willingness to enhance collaboration for the benefit of the people.
