KUALA LUMPUR, 15 FEBRUARY 2024: The Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad (VTREC) with the present of the stakeholders have embarked on the Soft Launch of the VTREC Vehicle Theft Public Awareness Campaign 2024.

The goal of the Soft Launch is to introduce the new campaign logo and new campaign theme to small audience of stakeholders in a low-key way, to gather feedback and to identify any issues before the main planned during the Official Launch.The goal of the vehicle theft campaign is to educate vehicle owners on how to keep their vehicles safe from theft and to share the knowledge of adverse effect. The campaign’s logo and slogan, “United Against Vehicle Theft,” were unveiled during the soft launch in order for public to become aware of the vehicle theft public awareness features.

YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan, Acting Chairman of the Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC), officiated the Soft Launch. The Soft Launch was also attended among others by other government and non-government agencies such as Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Kementerian Pengangkutan Malaysia (MOT), Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia (JKDM), Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), Malaysia Takaful Association (MTA), PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd (PUSPAKOM), and Association of Loss Adjuster (AMLA).

YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC, share some statistics on status of vehicle theft. She explained that throughout the years based on insurance industry statistics, there had been a significant decrease in overall of country-level vehicle theft record from 2013 to 2022 as much as 89%. Meanwhile, comparing 2022 with 2021, overall 2021 has recorded 4,114 stolen vehicles, it has decreased to 4,103 units in 2022, which is a decrease of 0.3%. In the context of vehicle theft by vehicle model, it shows a decrease of 1.2% for Motorcycles and a decrease of 10.8% for Commercial Vehicles. However, Private Vehicle has recorded a slight increase of 0.5%. The overall decrease for the ten-year timeline in vehicle theft statistics illustratedthat initiatives taken and deployed by VTREC and the stakeholders have had a huge impact on the decline of vehicle theft record.

The combination of technological advancements, legislative measures, improvement of administration eco-system, public awareness campaigns and collaborative efforts among stakeholders especially the enforcement agencies were identified as among major contributors that have to the massive success in reducing the vehicle theft. Indeed, in this respect, the role and influence of stakeholders to be together and united in combating crime of vehicle theft are important for socio-economic, safety and wellbeing of the nation. It should be emphasised that the main goal to reduce vehicle theft is being “UNITED AGAINST VEHICLE THEFT”.
