VTREC in collaboration with the Performance Management & Delivery Unit of the Prime Minister’s Unit Department (PEMANDU) is working to reduce vehicle theft in the country. Following the 2-series workshops previously held VTREC and PEMANDU had co-organised the final workshop (Workshop Session 3) from 23rd to 25th June 2014 at Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan on Reducing Car Theft focussing on Trans-national and Cannibalization.

The 3-series of PEMANDU-VTREC Workshops Sessions held were as follows:

  • Workshop Session 2 was held on 5th to 7th of May 2014 and
  • Workshop Session 3 was held on 23rd to 25th of June 2014

Vehicle theft alone accounts for forty eight percent (48%) of National Crime Index.  The reduction of vehicle theft requires more preventative measure to e taken as opposed to retrospective action in the wake of a cars eing stolen.  It is for this reason VTREC and PEMANDU had organised 3-series workshops to look specifically into this issue.  In order to address this pressing issue, all stakeholders from insurance industry, government agencies, related association and institutions and car manufactures had been involved to take on holistic approach to the issue.

The objective of such workshop is to understand the entire eco-system in order to identify and address the existing cleavages within of motor industry as well as the supply chain involves with the focus scope on cross-border theft and cannibalization of vehicle parts.
