PDRM-VTREC Reaching Out for Public Engagement Strategy at Alor Setar, Kedah

ALOR SETAR, 28 January 2022:   As part of the vehicle theft awareness activities for this year’s Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) and Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) delivering their share of educating the public through interaction and listening with the goal of generating mutual benefit which is reducing vehicle theft crime in the country.

The public engagement is in conjunction with PDRM-VTREC Vehicle Theft Public Awareness Mini Campaign in Kedah which took place from 26th until 28th January 2022.  The mini campaign was officiated by YDH Tuan SAC Jamel Salleh, Ketua Penolong Pengarah Operasi Darat, Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti (JPJKK) Bukit Aman at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre, Alor Setar, Kedah, who spoke about the important to protect our own vehicle from theft.  He also noted about the interest in VTREC’s initiative to help the government advocate for reducing vehicle theft for many years.  Also present at the event were YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator VTREC, YDH Tuan SAC Alzafni bin Ahmad, Ketua JPJKK Negeri Kedah, various representative of government agencies and student leaders of GPSUUM, Universiti Utara Malaysia.  Various programmes and activities have been scheduled throughout the three-day mini campaign in order to raise awareness on vehicle theft including seminars.

 

The mini campaign placed a ‘Doodle Wall’ at Aman Central Mall, Alor Setar, Kedah, it is regarded as public interaction wall.  The wall also provides opportunities that create meaningful public involvement for them to share their care, support and concern about reducing crime of vehicle theft by way of protecting their vehicles.

Human factor exerts a dominant influence on vehicle theft crime.  The implementation of measures that may effectively influence the behavior of motorists are recognised, therefore as a vital aim of the public activities.  Vehicle theft awareness campaigns or mini campaigns are one of important tools for reaching this aim.  The mini campaign is to drive down vehicle theft rate through behavioural change among motorists.

PDRM-VTREC Vehicle Theft Public Awareness Mini Campaign builds on PDRM-VTREC’s previous vehicle theft campaign titled PDRM-VTREC Vehicle Theft Public Awareness Campaign which was officiated by YDH Dato’ Dev Kumar, Deputy Director of CID, Bukit Aman at NU Sentral, Kuala Lumpur on 8 April 2021.

Encouragingly, the public were willing to participate in providing theirs protect your vehicle from theft messages and took the opportunity to colour the doodles art to demonstrate their supports.  The PDRM-VTREC’s public reach out strategy also showed evidence of family members participantion through out the mini campaign at the Aman Sentral Mall, Alor Setar, Kedah.  The gesture may allow more people to overcome issues of stolen vehicle and foster sense of care and behavioural change in keeping their vehicle safe.
