VTREC Embarking into Laboratory Session 1 on Stolen Vehicle Spare Parts and Fake Spare Parts

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 March 2022 – YBhg Datuk Lokman bin Jamaan, Senior Director of Enforcement, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ)  today officiated the opening of the first session of Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) with the co-operation of Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) on vehicle theft motivated by stolen vehicle spare parts and fake spare parts laboratory. The lab took place at Kuala Lumpur Golf Club, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

Stolen vehicle spare parts and fake spare parts he said, “can act as a safety hazard.  The brakes you bought might not be able to stop the car in time or the aftermarket sport rim alloy can crack as soon it hits the potholes. Lab on vehicle theft with stolen spare parts components and counterfeit parts are rarely featured, therefore this lab is certainly significant in our effort to combat vehicle theft and road safety hazard.  The lab will channel the information we want to know.”  In his Officiating Speech, he also highlighted, “Congratulation to VTREC in organising the lab, the approach of the lab is important and rational in facing the challenges of vehicle theft issues and consumers safety.”

According to YBhg Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, The Co-ordinator of VTREC during her Opening Speech, “The objective of the Laboratory is to define, measures and analyse the current weaknesses within the eco-system and implement improvement to curb the opportunities of vehicle thefts for illegal spare parts in the country.  This effort is in line with government’s effort in crime reduction nationwide.”  She thanked all respective stakeholders involved including government agencies among others JPJ, PDRM-JSJ, PDRM-JPJKK, Port Police, Ministry of Transport (MOT), Ministry of Domestics Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia (JKDM), and all non-government sectors including insurance companies, takaful operators, workshops, International Association of Auto Theft Investigator (IAATI) – Asian Branch), vehicle securities companies and universities students and so forth that attended the Session 1 Lab at Kuala Lumpur.

The stolen spare parts and fake spare parts lab organised by VTREC are geared towards caring for life safety and combating vehicle theft in Malaysia.

The Lab – Session 1 ended by memento handing over by YBhg Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, The Co-ordinator of VTREC to most active participants throughout the Lab – Session 1 of various government agencies and non-government agencies.
