With Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2023 in Line, VTREC Urges the Public to be Safe!

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 April 2023: In it effort to proliferate awareness about the crime of vehicle theft and vehicle safety on the road, Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) in collaboration with PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd (PUSPAKOM) and International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI), once again greet the public via a thirty-minute Facebook (FB) Live session entitled “Vehicle Theft and Road Traffic Accidents” in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Apart from sharing tips on vehicle and road safety, the interaction recognizes public concerns by having the panellists answer queries forwarded to them. The session is comprised of experts across their field namely YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC, YBhg Dato’ Ooi Win Juat, Head of Marketing and Advisory, Puspakom Sdn Bhd and YBhg Dato’ Alex Lye of International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI).

 

 

YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid sharing knowledge on vehicle theft and road accident and how they are correlated

 

YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid kicked off the session by providing insight into vehicle theft and road accident and how they are correlated to each other. In her explanation, some syndicates imitate cars involved in road accidents and stitched them together to create a cut and joint vehicle or “kereta potong-sambung”.  The cases of cut and joint vehicles spawn harm and dreadful impacts on road users. This type of crime syndicate has been exploiting the system and shattering innocence life. She urged the public to be alert when it comes to purchasing vehicles and make purchase from a verified channel.

 

YBhg Dato’ Ooi Win Juat welcome the public to do their inspection at Puspakom and announcing that PUISPAKOM offer free inspection in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri for limited time period

 

 

 Following that, YBhg Dato’ Ooi Win Juat advised the public on illegal car purchases involving “kereta potong-sambung” that could bring harm on the road alarming that there are a lot of such cases in Malaysia. He alerts the public on the danger of having incompatible components from different models be incorporated to own vehicles as it is menacing. He further explained the importance of the brake and its performance and how it needed regular maintenance from time to time. He suggested that one needs to have a measurement method to monitor the brake performance to prevent unwanted harm and ultimately emphasised the use of genuine parts to avoid malfunction.

YBhg Dato’ Alex Lye touched on the faraday Pouch and immobiliser importance to curbing vehicle theft. According to him, the immobiliser serves as a first defence and security system for a vehicle. The better the immobiliser, the more difficult for the thieves to crack the system since it is self-activated once the engine is turned off. Other than that, he also shared about the modus operandi run by the car thieves stating that vehicle theft has come a long way from taking 15 minutes to steal a car to only 3 minutes. This portrayed that the thieves experienced the perks of technological advancement in times. Thus, the prevention method required an upgrade to keep up and prevent vehicle theft advancement.
